Former Macquarie Group and GE Capital executive Simon York joins as Senior Adviser to spearhead new initiative

Sydney [13 May 2020] – L.E.K. Consulting Australia announced today that it has appointed Simon York as Senior Adviser to lead the consultancy’s Financial Services practice in Australia and New Zealand.

Mr. York has over 25 years’ experience working for leading global financial services companies in strategy and corporate development, management, marketing and advisory roles in North America, Europe and Australia.

“This is an exciting opportunity for L.E.K.” says Nicholas Holder, Partner and Head of L.E.K.’ Asia-Pacific region. “Simon is a highly experienced and respected strategic leader whose insights will enable L.E.K. to extend its market-leading growth strategy offering during a time when astute business leaders will be positioning themselves for the post-COVID future. Simon also brings deep transactions expertise to work alongside L.E.K.’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice to better address the burgeoning market for advice on strategic investments in non-bank financial services.” Simon York will work alongside transactions services veterans Stuart Westmore, Neale Jones and David Ferrarin.

Prior to joining L.E.K., York was an Executive Director at Macquarie Group for over 11 years. During this period, he established the Corporate Development and Strategy team for Macquarie Corporate and Asset Finance, personally leading over $15 billion of completed M&A transactions, as well as the entry into multiple new markets. He worked for GE Capital from 1998 to 2006, during which time he was Director of European Business Development (’98-’03), European Marketing Leader for GE Fleet Services (’03-‘05) and Managing Director of GE Fleet Services for A/NZ (‘06). His early career was in investment banking, advising on M&A transactions and equity and debt raisings.

“I’m thrilled to be joining an exceptional team and look forward to working with them to help our clients with their most pressing strategic challenges. The current environment is bringing massive disruption to all sectors, and financial services is deeply impacted as unemployment rises, credit losses increase, and the economy faces an uncertain path forward. In this context, we expect a number of business models will be challenged and that this will drive significant strategic activity,” says York.

He has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of New South Wales, a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He will be based in the Sydney office.
