As a professional services firm, a large part of how we impact society and make a difference is through our consulting expertise and advice. We work for governmental and non-governmental organizations on projects for public education and health impact, such as supporting pharmaceutical breakthroughs and working with transport and infrastructure organizations to improve and enhance the value of publicly funded facilities. An example is Medicines For Humanity.

• MFH is dedicated to saving children's lives in impoverished communities worldwide. MFH helps local healthcare partners to implement effective healthcare initiatives for children and become self-sustaining organizations. These efforts extend beyond donating critically needed medicines for children and pre-natal care for women in areas with high child mortality to developing the clinical and business divisions of local healthcare partners in building stronger, sustainable healthcare in these communities.
  
  MFH has been considering the benefits of combining health care delivery/services with micro-enterprise lending. It points to organizations such as Esperanza, another organization supported by the Major League Baseball Players' Association, as a potential model. The project objectives are to determine the attractiveness and viability of a business model that combines healthcare services and microenterprise lending to achieve MFH's mission. We have structured the project in two phases, which will enable us to involve more L.E.K. staff and allow MFH to build consensus with its donors on the recommendations of Phase I before developing the implementation plan for a pilot site.

L.E.K. has also developed a growing practice advising organizations on strategic issues relating to climate change, such as policy and regulation, ‘green’ investments and the development of low carbon business strategies. We have also pioneered an approach that enables organizations to identify and set carbon reduction initiatives in line with wider business objectives, and develop a clear understanding of their commercial implications.
